October 7th was the most horrible day of our lifetime. It was the sum of all our fears coming to life right before our eyes. But as bad as it was, we responded just like any country would respond. We went to war. War is ugly. Tons of people die and everyone on both sides hopes it will end soon. But in the meantime, it’s war. So it goes.
But what really got us is seeing so many clueless people with no skin in the game spend their days spewing ignorance, empty words and outright hatred -- whether on social media, university campuses or on the streets. In many ways, they are more frightening than the Hamas terrorists themselves. They are dangerous because they rob us of the meaning of words. They kill the meaning of words by doing that, they kill truth and meaning.
But they are also funny in their way - no Israeli or Palestinian can take them seriously. They are useful idiots for some, while for others they simply didn’t get enough attention from Daddy. Whatever the reason, the world will be better if they take a deep hard look at themselves.
That’s why we created the ICRW - The International Committee for the Reclamation of words. To provide them with the mirror they need - and to remind everyone that words actually matter.
Peace.
